Thanks also to Trevor Crowe for a fascinating and insightful lecture on organ building and maintenance on Saturday afternoon. These beautiful events were a wonderful finale to Limerick Pipe Organ Festival. Improvisation Workshop with Martin Baker

We’re really looking forward to tomorrow night’s concert at St. John’s Cathedral at 7:30PM, the highlight of which will surely be the 12 minutes improvisation on a theme to be given to Martin Baker on the night:

·       Buxtehude, Dietrich – Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern

·       Franck, César – Choral No.1 in E major

·       Reger, Max – Fantasie über den Choral “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern”

·       Baker, Martin – Improvisation

·       Bach, Johann Sebastian (1685-1750) – Passacaglia (BWV 582)

There are just three events left before the end of our 2016 festival: a masterclass in improvisation with renowned organist Martin Baker tomorrow (an application form to participate or observe can be found in a separate post below below); a recital by Martin Baker on Friday night, and a workshop in organ building and maintenance by Trevor Crowe on Saturday afternoon.

We’re looking forward to a lunchtime recital by Mr. Peter Barley tomorrow, Wednesday 28th September at 13:15 in St. Mary’s Cathedral. It promises to be a very enjoyable performance, with pieces including:

Cantabile and Finale (6th Symphony)                                       C-M Widor (1844-1937)

 

Admission is FREE. There will be a retiring collection for the Companions of St Mary’s Cathedral Music. Thank you for your support.

  • Saturday, 1st October, 2PM – Organ Building and Maintenance demonstration lecture with Trevor Crowe, Mary Immaculate College. Admission: €5.

Throughout the festival, we have heard the beautiful music that pipe organs can create – but how do they create it? Trevor Crowe will explain exactly that in what promises to be a fascinating lecture. This lecture is open to all, musicians and non-musicians alike!
