In addition to our ongoing series of recitals by local players, we seek to increase the number of international artists for this year’s festival. A particularly interesting feature of the festival is the attention paid to the exciting art of organ improvisation, so we are delighted to feature a young, prizewinning organist, David Cassan, of Notre Dame, Paris in concert in the Sacred Heart Church (July 12th, 8pm). The finale of the festival will feature two exciting events by Martin Baker, Organist of Westminster Cathedral London; an Improvisation Masterclass on Thursday 29th September followed by a concert on Friday 30th September, both events in St John’s Cathedral on the historic Hill organ.
In 2014, we were fortunate to receive City of Culture funding. As this was one-off festival funding, we are now seeking to broaden our appeal. We are looking to our supporters to continue to present a quality festival which will bring our heritage of beautiful instruments and their music to a wider public. LPOF is supported by Limerick Arts Office and educational and commercial sponsors in Limerick.
We are aiming to raise €2000 to cover performers’ fees and hospitality. This will be a great help in covering the overall cost of the festival, which also includes publicity and promotion. Most of our historic venues receive very little public funding and so we intend to make donations to each venue.
